A recent visitor to Anguilla was Judge Philip N. Gumbs who resides in Cliffwood, New Jersey, and whose parents were born in Anguilla. Now retired, he has been coming to Anguilla as often as possible and enjoying his stay at Nathan’s Cove at Meads Bay Beach. The two-storey building bearing that name is a family-owned property. Family members visiting from the United States occupy the top floor while the first floor provides excellent accommodation for tourists.

Levette Proctor, of South Hill, is one of Anguilla’s young shipwrights who, in his own way, is keeping our national sport alive. You better remember this fact because Levette is not the type of guy to remind you about his famous associations.
Since 1991, Levette has been employed at Rebel Marine, North Hill, where he now specialises in fibreglass boat construction. His involvement with boat building, however, dates further back than 1991 - as far back as the days when he would build model boats to race in the ponds at Sandy Ground and at Rendezvous.

LAWYER WITH A TEACHING LOVE

It has been one year now that Angёle H.Wilson (Aurjul), returned to Anguilla, and to quote her “it’s been an adjustment in more ways than one, however, despite the various challenges I am happy to be back home”. Some twenty years prior, Aurjul, her parents along with the rest of her siblings migrated to the US Virgin Islands. As a young adult she was a primary school teacher who started out at the Road Primary School where Dizzy (on his way to and from work in Blowing Point) dropped her off and picked her up until her transfer to Island Harbour Primary School and later at East End Primary school. She insists that her first love is teaching and in fact she never gave up teaching, and has taught at the University of the Virgin Islands as an adjunct instructor for little over a decade and later at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina.

A much-respected freedom fighter in the Anguilla Revolution, Hyacinth Roberteen Carty, popularly known as ‘Miss Joseph’, was laid to rest at Sandy Hill Cemetery on Tuesday April 22nd, following the funeral service at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church. The service, presided over by Bishop Errol Brooks, was attended by a large number of persons from throughout the island, indicative of the high esteem in which she was held.
