Ms Michelle Queeley-Roberts, a teacher of English Language and English Literature at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, has graduated with a Master of Philosophy Degree in Education with highest honours. She did her studies at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados and graduated on October 27, having completed a rigorous two-year programme of study.

The appointment of Farrah Banks, as Director of the Anguilla Government’s Department of Information and Broadcasting, is a matter of pride and triumph for the island’s womenfolk who are continuing to distinguish themselves on the island by achieving positions of influence and respect.

The 2007/2008 Executive of the Year in Anguilla is Mrs. Janine Edwards, a partner in Sunset Homes, a real estate up-market construction and villa company on the island.

Newly-appointed Director of Health Services in Anguilla, Dr. The Right Honourable Sir Kennedy A. Simmonds, has expressed thanks to members of the Anguillian public for their congratulations and good wishes to him on his appointment.

The sad, but quiet, passing of Mr. James L. Woodley at his residence in Blowing Point, Anguilla, at the age of 78, on Sunday, October 14, has closed a chapter in his life and in the history of Anguilla.

Janay Reymond was once a little artist drawing images of other young people dressed up in fashion clothing. Now at 18 she is developing into a highly talented designer with some very marketable swimsuits and evening wear products.

An Emmy Award Nominated Network Journalist, Author, Life Coach and Speaker in the United States with ties to Anguilla, is on the island and has much praise and pride for her family connections and Anguilla.

Once again, like many times in the past, and hopefully many more times in the future, all Anguillians should be proud. Educators, parents and the community at large, should be commended for yet another son’s educational performance and achievement.

Mr. Rhon A. Connor, the Senior Environment and Sustainable Development Coordinator in the Department of Environment, has graduated with merit from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom (UK). The graduation ceremony was held on the 16th July 2007 on the ground of the Cornwall Campus. Mr. Connor earned a Master of Science Degree in Biodiversity and Conservation.

Surrounded by family at his Manhattan home, Richard Hauser passed away at the end of June 2007—he was nearly 80.

Paula Mack, a well-known live wire and longstanding member of the Rotary Club of Anguilla and a friend of the island, has died at the age of 72.

Miss Monifa Brooks, born 8th May 1980 to parents Oliver and Celia Brooks, graduated with honours from the Baruch College and its honors program, as a Provost Scholar on 30th May 2007. She graduated with a GPA of 3.915 gaining a BBA in Economics with a minor in Social Psychology.

Mrs. Brenda Carty of Anguilla, who was appointed by Her Majesty The Queen in June 2006, as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), has recently been presented with the Insignia of that award.

Prominent figure in the Island Harbour community, Hilton Fleming, said he was obeying a command from God through two Angels who prompted him to get baptised on Saturday, June 16.

In the 40 year commemorative magazine produced and financed by the Government, there were a multitude of articles dealing directly with the history of Anguilla from 1967 to present time. It is one of the best examples of a historical document Anguilla has seen in recent times as it is always beneficial to hear history by word of mouth from people who were actually part of the process. There is no doubt that sport has played a vital role in the history of Anguilla and it will continue to play a paramount role in its future. Yet, in preparing for the future, it is always important to do so by studying the past. The Anguillian was approached by Trevor “Ras Bucket” Davis recently. He was concerned about the whole truth being told about the development of sports and in his own words, “wanted to set the record straight.”

Repeat American visitor, David Sotolongo and his wife, Sheila, felt there was no other place in the world than Anguilla where he could celebrate his 50th birthday and they could lead a group of 34 friends to attend the ceremony and enjoy the serenity of the island. So overwhelmed were they that David called The Anguillian to report what he said was a human interest story.

Kimberly Rogers and Tonya Carter first met on opposite sides of the aisle in the Primary School Spelling Bee Competition in 1995. Despite the fact that they were competing as rival schools, they managed to whisper to each other and share jokes across the desk. That was the beginning of their journey to a thousand miles…

“Real Success is finding your lifework in the work that you love.” Few individuals ever truly achieve this. However, this saying is clearly exemplified through the life of Damien T. Harrigan, son of Winifred Harrigan, Father of Kamea Harrigan and a proud descendent of the Island Harbour community. Damien’s love for computers and other related fields enabled him to graduate from The City College of New York (CCNY) in Harlem, NY in Spring 2007 with a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Computer Engineering.

Mr. Jason Webster of Island Harbour, Anguilla, graduated from Andrews University on May 06, 2007, with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing. Andrews University, located in Berrien Spring, Michigan ranks #6 in the US for international diversity—a perfect place to welcome students from the shores of Anguilla. Mr. Webster graduated with honors and was recently inducted into the Delta Mu Delta Honors Society. He is also featured in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges for 2007.

Trevesa J. Smith, an Anguillian student in the United States, has graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Andrews University in Michigan, where she began her formal studies in 2003.
