Governor and Mrs. Alan Huckle visited the students at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School on Wednesday as they continued to familiarise themselves with the island, its people and various services.

The six Government Primary Schools in Anguilla are preparing to mount a two-day exhibition on June 29 and 30 at the Teachers’ Resource Centre.

Three of the eight primary schools in Anguilla secured the top positions in the Cable & Wireless-sponsored 16th Annual Spelling B Competition.

In these photographs Fifth Form students from the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School practised oral French at the Library Resource Centre, ahead of their formal examination for CXC certification.

Anguilla is observing 25 years of the Organisation of Early Childhood Education on the island this month. A series of activities began with a divine service at the Christian Assembly Church at Blowing Point on Sunday, March 7. There Pastor Ambrose Richardson welcomed a number of teachers and spoke on the importance of training young minds in educational and spiritual values.

Grade six students from the seven primary schools in Anguilla are being exposed to the banking and financial sector. This has come about as part of the Eastern Caribbean Central Union Financial Literacy Programme in the eight member territories.

Lavelle Niles, aged 10, a grade 5 student at the Stoney Ground Primary School, is the most recent beneficiary of the Mouton Trust Foundation set up to assist in the education of Anguillian children.

Children born in Anguilla will benefit from US$100,000 to further their education, thanks to the Mouton Anguillian Education Trust. The money has been made available through the Anguilla Community Foundation to be paid out in grants and/or gifts to the children.

Cake-making and decoration, one of the Adult Education Programmes at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, has progressed very well over the past term and has been a rewarding experience, according to students attending the course.

The Anguilla Rotary Club has made an impressive contribution to the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School Campus B Library. On Tuesday morning books valued at US$3000.00 and two computers were handed over to the school.

The Optimist Club, Anguilla, presented a cheque of US$496, on Wednesday of this, to the Principal of the Island Harbour Primary School to purchase books for the school library.

If a fairy lends me her magic wand for one day I would first wish for a security system to carry out all my plans. In this room the magic wand will be secured by an alarm system so no one can steal it. At the side of the door there will be a panel box with a D.N.A. scanner. A green light at the top of the scanner will flash on and the alarm system will turn off. If it is the right D.N.A. When I get the magic wand I will turn the alarm system back on a make ten wishes.

The Anguilla Community Foundation, in conjunction with the Social Security Board, officially presented two sets of Scholastic Summer School Reading Programme books to the Learning Support Department at Campus B, Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School. This short ceremony took place on Wednesday of this week in the presence of education officials, the Principal, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the school and the second form Language Skills students of the Department who are now benefiting from this new reading programme.

The Rotary Club of Anguilla thanks all those who contributed to the success of the Boat Race fundraiser to provide books and computers for the Campus B Library including the owners and crew of the 12 boats, the public and the volunteers from Campus B who helped collect funds on the day of the race.

West End Primary School emerged winners of the 15th Annual Cable & Wireless Primary School Spelling Bee Competition held on June 5th at the Stoney Ground Primary School Auditorium.

The Woodbine Preschool celebrates its 25th anniversary this month under the theme ‘From the Past to the Future’.

A number of students at Campus B of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School were honoured for their contribution to various aspects of the work of the school and to their own educational development.

As part of their all-round educational and spiritual development, students at Campus B of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School are being exposed to a religious session in the courtyard each week. This has been organised by Deputy Principal and Head of the Campus, Anne Edwards, in cooperation with Ministers from various churches on the island.

The remedial reading programme now being carried out at the six Government primary schools in Anguilla, has been strengthened by the presentation of a number of much-needed children’s books. The reading materials were jointly funded by Michael Fleming (who undertook the project) and the Long Bay Lutheran Church whose congregation largely comprises visitors from the United States.

Monday April 28 was the first of a two-week workshop aimed at raising the standard of teaching and learning numeracy in the six public Primary Schools as well as the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School. The participating teachers from the Comprehensive School were drawn from the Mathematics and Special Needs Departments.
