This marks the final week of the Cable & Wireless bsmart competition, and schools around the island are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winning school.

Certificates and trophies were presented to a number of fourth form students at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School for successfully representing the various houses in a quiz competition organised by the Nutrition and Health Promotion in collaboration with the Guidance and Counselling Teacher, Anita Ruan.

The Road Primary School is grateful for contributions received recently from Janice A. Louden (formerly Albertha Proctor).

Two Anguillian children have been presented with cash awards for being winners of a competition hosted by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank to promote awareness and understanding of various issues relating to currency spending and investment decisions.

More than thirty children are benefiting from the Soroptimist Club’s Annual Reading Workshop being held each morning for three weeks. Children are chosen by the education authorities and the workshop is organized by Soroptimist Stella Horsford assisted by other Soroptimist members.

On June 30, the principal and staff of the Bethel Methodist Preschool graduated nineteen jubilant students. As each student was presented he or she said what his or her career goal was and then sported their motto “If It Is To Be It Is Up To Me”.

At a ceremony on June 28 at the Teachers’ Resource Centre auditorium, eighteen students from the sixth form class of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School graduated. The theme for the event was “The Journey has just Begun”. It was chaired by Mitchelle Lake who welcomed those present and described the graduation as a significant step in the sixth formers career.

Graduates of the Island Harbour Primary School were encouraged by Mr. Evan Webster to live up to their graduating theme – ‘Moving On’. He told them that they would face new challenges as they made the transition from primary school to the secondary level of their education. He continued: “a new resolve will be essential for each one of you, if success is to be achieved.”

The Modern Languages Department of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School has recognised 32 students in Years Two and Three for their performance in the recent French and Spanish Spelling B competitions. The awards ceremony was held during the morning assembly at Campus B on Friday, June 9.

The Alwyn Alison Primary School at West End edged out the Stoney Ground School by one point to become the 2006 winner of the Pre-Anguilla Day Quiz sponsored by American Eagle.

Tyrone Webster-Reid, a young Anguillian student in St. Thomas, has been named a United States National Award Winner, having excelled in Mathematics and placed on the Honour roll.

The final round of a Health Authority-sponsored Quiz Competition was held on Monday, May 29.

The Alwyn Allison Primary School is the beneficiary of a new state-of-the-art computer system, thanks to the generosity of a long-time guest of Cap Juluca.
Mr. William Sagan, who has visited Anguilla with his family and has stayed at Cap Juluca many times over the past few years, requested that Cap Juluca arrange to purchase a fully-featured desktop computer on his behalf during his most recent visit in March.

SUNY Cobleskill college recently held its annual 2006 Awards Convocation at Bouck Hall Auditorium. Among those receiving awards and recognition were four Anguillian students.

Algernon and Cleone Boston of Hopscotch Enterprises, Ltd., the locally owed company that brought you Spongebob in Paradise, donated a much needed water dispenser and digital camera to the Island Harbour Primary School.

A number of students at Campus A of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School have submitted various food preparations for their practical work in the upcoming CXC exams.

The producers of the Cable and Wireless-sponsored Manhattan show at the Lansome Bowl Cultural Centre in Anguilla on December 3, 2005, have made donations to two schools as part of an agreement to give something back to the community.

Ninety-two students from the Comprehensive Learning Centre at North Hill graduated on Sunday, February 12, at a ceremony held at the Next Level upstairs the English Rose Restaurant in The Valley.

The Anguilla Development Board (ADB) through the Small Enterprise Development Unit (SEDU) has just ended a four-week course in Small Business Development Skills for the fifth formers at the ALHCS.

Four students at Campus A of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School were among others from various islands who participated in the Annual Caribbean Food and Nutrition Quiz Competition. The event was conducted here on November 9 and 10 by the Nutrition and Health Promotion Unit, using the teleconference facilities of the University of the West Indies Distance Education Centre.
