In West End there is a small but thriving outdoor private school doing a great deal of successful teaching of children and adults. So effective is the work there that students are attending from as far as Stoney Ground some eight miles away.

Students at Campus A at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School have launched a Graphics, Audio and Visual Association (GAVA) thus giving themselves an opportunity to explore an exciting and growing activity on the island.

Linford Richardson and Brenda Rogers are the proud parents of a daughter with high aspirations and abilities. Reigning Miss Anguilla, Twyla Richardson, has earned the distinction of being named to The National Dean’s List®, 2004- 2005, an honor bestowed on high achieving college students within the United States.

Ministry and Education Department officials thought a Virtues Workshop was so important that they postponed the re-opening of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School by a week to allow its teachers to attend the training sessions conducted by two visiting facilitators. Next time, a similar workshop will be held for teachers at the primary schools.

Football coaches and players at the Valley Primary School will be further able to develop the sport there as a result of some well-needed gifts from Tennis Academy Founder and President, Mitchelle Lake.

The Career Development Institute at North Hill, Anguilla, has awarded certificates to a number of students who attended and completed a Computer Crash Course, Information Technology Level 1 and Level 2 Computer courses.

Anguillian Shawne Bryan was recently elected President of the International Club at SUNY Cobleskill. He has been a club member for two years and will graduate in May with an AAS in Occupational Studies in Culinary Arts.

A peer helper programme developed by the Anguilla Family Planning Association, in conjunction with the Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation, is going well with young people assisting others in various aspects of sexual reproductive health. The project, funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, has been undertaken in a number of regional islands.

As part of a wider program of community service and charitable work, Kamique Properties (Anguilla) Ltd. has donated a Computer Laboratory to the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School.

A former pupil at the Morris Vanterpool Primary School, now a student at Campus B at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, is the recipient of a scholarship from the Optimist Club of Anguilla.

The students of the Stoney Ground Special Needs Class assembled on Friday to thank various supporters for the contributions they made to assist them in learning the art of baking. The special needs class taught by Mrs. Carol Webster baked cupcakes, pineapple upside down cake and other goodies as part of the activities to assist them in grasping the basic curriculum of math and reading.

Preschool Teacher, Icilma Itasha Webster, has completed a Certificate Course in Child Care Practice from the State University of New York at Cobleskill.

The Anguilla Postal Club has presented fourteen dictionaries to the Island Harbour Primary School, as part of its adoption programme.

As the observance of the Month of the Elderly continued in Anguilla, the first group of school children visited the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens’ Home on October 14. They represented the Alwyn Allison Primary School at West End and were accompanied by their teacher, Oslyn Babrow.

Master Drummer Mr. Michael Carvin is presently in Anguilla contributing some of his legendary talent to the benefit of Anguillian musicians.

In an impressive ceremony, 96 students graduated from the Fifth Form of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School on Wednesday evening, October 12.

On Wednesday October 5 many prominent persons in the community were invited to teach a lesson at the Alwyn Allison Primary School in celebration of World Teachers’ Day.

The month of September was designated as Literacy Month, World Literacy Day being on September 8.

The Adult and Continuing Education Unit in Anguilla has had its second graduation of students. The ceremony, during which some 25 persons were presented with certificates after completing a number of courses, was held at the Teachers’ Resource Centre on September 22. The theme was “Continuing Education is the key to Anguilla’s Development.”

Acting Chief Minister in Anguilla, Victor Banks, was the guest speaker at Campus A at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School during the assembly session on Wednesday morning.
