They have just completed a three-week tournament at Coronation Park in the Valley and have been commended for their fine performance and sportsmanship.
President of the Pony Basketball Association, Calvin Hughes, speaking at the closing ceremony for the tournament on Sunday, March 11, said the competition was to have been longer but was shortened as a result of a lack of coaches. He stressed that there was also a need for more parents to support the children by being on the field with them.
He was grateful to several persons who coached the players whom he named as Teacher Art Egel who trained teams from the Alwyn Allison School and the Stoney Ground School; Joe Brown who came from St. Maarten to assist; Stanley Carty, Ramona Brooks, Elvis Carty and Owen Mussington. The umpires and all persons who helped in various ways were also thanked.

Sports Director, Alkins Rogers, spoke highly of the performance of the children. He thought they had shown remarkable enthusiasm despite the newness of the sport, the short comings with the tournament, the need for more training and for uniforms for all the players. He looked forward to the continued development of the sport and assured the youngsters that all of the difficulties impacting pony basket ball would be overcome by the next tournament.
The championship trophy was won by Valley Primary and was presented to Joel Santana on behalf of the school. The trophy for the second place went to the Alwyn Allison School and was received by Troy Rothran; and in third position was Road School with Zachary Richardson receiving the trophy.
Trophies and helmets were presented to a number of players in recognition of their individual performances.
