Free Workshop on Caribbean Tourism Safety

The St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with a number of local agencies is hosting a series of workshops on Caribbean Tourism Safety from June 6-12, 2004 at the Maho Beach Resort in St. Maarten.

The presenter for these workshops will be Dr. Peter Tarlow, a sociologist specializing in the impact of crime and terrorism on the tourism industry and the world's pre-eminent expert of tourism safety. Dr. Tarlow was the chief security advisor to US President Bill Clinton and worked with the New York City Police Department after the attacks of 9/11/01

The workshops will focus on the sociology of terrorism, its impact on tourism security, how local governments can help regional agencies to recover, and how communities must face a major paradigm shift in the way it does business. Dr. Tarlow will also present a special session on shaping attitudes in the tourism industry.

These sessions are free. All persons involved in the hospitality sector as well as a number of other sectors are invited to attend. A complimentary lunch is also provided to those attending a full day session.

The grid below outlines the week long sessions. The AHTA strongly recommends to its members to attend one of these sessions. Dr. Tarlow is an engaging, witty, entertaining and informative speaker who will provide you with valuable insights into the psyche of today's travelers and help you and your staff better understand and respond to your guests/patrons needs.
