0551 - The Ballad of Abu Ghraib Gaol

The Ballad of Abu Ghraib Gaol [OO #551]

The OO is off to Los Angeles for a week, and the Staff has the week off. On return there will be an L.A. report, as usual. Meanwhile, since you Readers all play guitar, here's something to sing:

* The Ballad of Abu Ghraib Gaol *

The saddest words of tongue or pen –
It's said they are: "It might have been".
I used to live in old Baghdad,
Not so good now; fact is, it's bad.

One morning, I go out for Sank-a,
Lookie there, a honkin' tank-a.
The soldiers grab me by the scruff,
And in this gaol they throw my duff.

Chorus: I need a Lincoln: Save me, Abe!
And get me out of Abu Ghraib!

Well, then they grab my shirt and pants,
And put me in a painful stance.
I'm showing off my naked butt,
And they bring in this snarling mutt.

Sixteen others stacked in piles,
While this damn woman laughs and smiles.
She's pointing at my private part,
How'd you like her for your sweetheart?

Chorus: I need a Lincoln ...

They ask me do I have a bomb?
They ask me did I know Saddam?
They ask me am I lib-er-ated?
And I say, no, in-car-cer-ated.

They say I might be with the anti-s,
And make me wear some lady's panties.
And all the time they're snapping pix,
While some guy's taping us in flicks.

You're losing both my heart and mind,
'Cause I can't help you search and find.
Since I ain't got no WMDs,
Just give me back my BVDs!

Chorus: I need a Lincoln, save me Abe!
And get me out of Abu Ghraib.
Yes, I don't know from WMDs,
So give me back my BVDs!

Thank you all kindly. We're working on some rock and roll, well-timed for the U.S. election: "A Big Botch in Iraq" is a sure hit. We hope to get General Zinni on the bass.

Next time: BareMinerals [OO #552]
